Bedroom Furniture FAQs

What bedroom furniture do I need for a complete bedroom?

The best place to start is to really consider how your furniture is going to support how you use the room. Most bedrooms need a bed, somewhere to store hanging clothes, a set of drawers, and at least one bedside table for quick access to the essentials. Once you’ve got these items covered – and depending on space – you may want to consider pieces like dressing tables, tallboy chests or blanket boxes for added storage.

At Roseland Furniture, we’re proud to offer everything from individual bedside tables and chests of drawers to beds, wardrobes, mattresses and complete bedroom sets. We stock everything you need to furnish a room gradually or create a coordinated scheme from the outset.

How should I measure my bedroom before ordering furniture?

You need to go beyond measuring the length and width of the room, although this is a great place to begin. Once you’ve got these basic specifications, you can mark the positions of doors, windows, radiators, plug sockets and any architectural features that will affect where your furniture will fit in the space. You will also need to allow space for wardrobe doors and drawers to open and enough clearance to comfortably walk around the bed.

When purchasing larger items like wardrobes and beds, think about how these pieces will be delivered and transported to the room. You may need to make sure that doorways, hallways and staircases are big enough to accommodate them, especially if you’re dealing with some awkward corners!

You'll find individual dimensions on all our product pages. Some products also provide measurements that are particularly useful if you’re trying to create a certain amount of storage; for example, wardrobe pages will list internal depth, hanging height and shelf dimensions.

What's the best bedroom furniture for a small bedroom?

If you’re restricted by the size or shape of the room, look for furniture that provides the maximum amount of storage compared to its footprint. Tallboys are a great investment because they make use of vertical space, while narrow bedside tables provide accessible storage without eating into too much space beside the bed. Storage and ottoman beds can be particularly useful because the space underneath the mattress becomes somewhere to keep bedding, towels, seasonal clothes and other bulky belongings that you don’t necessarily want to be on show all year round.

It might be tempting to choose the smallest version of every piece, but actually, a well-proportioned chest of drawers with enough capacity for your clothes is often a more practical purchase than several smaller units.

Should I buy matching bedroom furniture or can I mix different ranges?

This depends entirely on your taste and preferences – there’s no need to buy matching furniture if you don’t want to! Coordinated bedroom sets achieve sought-after consistency, but you can also combine pieces from different collections if you want to go for a more eclectic aesthetic. The key is to look for at least one common thread between your items, whether that’s a similar wood tone or colours, or certain shapes or proportions. You want to make sure your bedroom looks like it has been intentionally put together, even if it’s not completely uniform.

What materials and finishes are on offer from your bedroom furniture collection?

Roseland Furniture’s bedroom collection includes both oak and painted furniture alongside upholstered bed frames and furniture made from a variety of more unusual materials, so there’s plenty of scope to choose your furniture in line with the look you want to achieve, and the way you expect to use the room.

Natural wood tones are the obvious way to go if you’re after warmth and texture, while painted furniture is an easy way to bring colour or a lighter finish into your bedroom design; our linen and velvet upholstered options can be used to introduce a bit of softness to the space.

Our advice is to always check the individual product specification to see what your preferred piece of bedroom furniture is constructed from. Two pieces that look the same could in fact have been manufactured using different materials.

How can I maximise bedroom storage without making the room feel overcrowded?

It’s a common question from our customers! We always say, start by matching different types of storage to different belongings. A wardrobe is useful for clothes that are prone to creasing, while a chest of drawers works better for smaller items and those can be folded. Tallboys provide drawer space while making use of vertical room, and blanket boxes can
accommodate bulkier items such as spare bedding.

The bed itself is another valuable storage opportunity, so keep an eye out for our storage and ottoman beds, which conceal plenty of space underneath their mattresses.

Will your bedroom furniture be delivered fully assembled?

Yes, Roseland Furniture offers a brilliant range of ready-assembled options, which you can find by using the Fully Assembled Items Only filter when browsing selected bedroom ranges.

However, don't assume every wardrobe, chest or bedside table will arrive in the same way. Some furniture may be completely assembled, while other products require partial or full assembly. Always read the product page before ordering, so you know what to expect when the item arrives.

For larger furniture, it's also worth checking the delivery service alongside the assembly details. One-person delivery is to the property threshold, whereas the 2-person Room of Choice service will deliver your order to your desired room.

How can I choose bedroom furniture that will still suit my home if I redecorate?

It’s important to freshen up your home from time to time, but the last thing you want to do is have to buy a whole new set of furniture. If longevity is important, think about the foundations of the room. Perhaps a classic-look bed frame or a versatile chest of drawers can remain in place to anchor the new design, while wall colours, bedding, lighting and accessories evolve around it.

It’s usually quite easy to incorporate oak and neutral painted furniture into different decorating schemes, but if you’re drawn to bolder shades, you don’t need to avoid colour altogether. The important thing is to think beyond what’s fashionable and choose a finish you'll be comfortable living with for several years.

Our bedroom ranges span classic oak, painted furniture and contemporary upholstered designs, so you can decide how much of a statement you want to make!

What should I consider when searching for the perfect wardrobe?

Measuring the external dimensions is important because you want to make sure the wardrobe fits in your space, but you also need to consider what needs to fit inside. If you mainly wear dresses, coats or suits, hanging height may be particularly important. Otherwise, if you own lots of folded clothing, a design incorporating drawers could make better use of the space.

Internal depth matters, too. That’s why we provide detailed internal measurements for many of our wardrobes; you’ll get specs on hanging height, shelf dimensions and internal depth, so you can assess whether the wardrobe is the best fit before placing your order.

Lastly, you need to make sure there’s enough clearance in front of the wardrobe for the doors to open comfortably.

How quickly can you deliver your bedroom furniture?

The delivery time for your item will depend on the product you choose, but it’s worth noting that we do offer an Express Delivery service on much of our range that includes beds, bedside tables and other bedroom furniture. Express Delivery applies to selected products rather than the entire catalogue, so look for the relevant delivery information when you’re
browsing and comparing your options.

We deliver to UK mainland addresses, and we calculate our delivery charges according to the order and surcharges that apply to remote and offshore locations. Selected two-person services are booked in advance and can include room-of-choice delivery, while other delivery types cover shipping the item to the threshold of your property. More information can be found over on our Delivery page.

If you’re bringing together a bedroom makeover with a strict deadline – for example, you’re moving home or preparing a guest room – make sure you check our availability and make a note of the stated delivery window before committing to a purchase.
