Tallboy Chests

A tallboy chest of drawers is one of the best storage solutions for making the most of smaller bedrooms, guest rooms and apartments. Rather than taking up valuable floor space, a tallboy uses its vertical design to provide plenty of drawer storage within a relatively small footprint. This makes it ideal for narrow alcoves, corners or spaces between other pieces of furniture where a wider chest simply wouldn't fit. Despite its compact dimensions, a tallboy offers a generous amount of storage for clothing, accessories and those everyday essentials, helping you keep your room organised
without making it feel overcrowded. If you're looking to increase storage while maintaining an open, uncluttered feel, a tallboy is often the perfect choice! View our full selection of bedroom furniture.

The main difference is their shape. A tallboy is taller and narrower than a standard chest of drawers, making it ideal for rooms where floor space is limited but extra storage is needed. A standard chest of drawers is typically wider, providing a larger top surface for lamps, mirrors or decorative accessories. If you don’t need quite as much space as a tallboy will give you and you’re looking to furnish a bedroom, you might want to consider bedside tables, instead.

Start by measuring the available floor space, but don't forget to consider the height of the room as well. A tallboy chest of drawers should feel proportionate to the surrounding furniture while leaving enough room above and around it to avoid making the space feel cramped. You’ll need to allow enough clearance for each drawer to open fully, especially if the tallboy will be positioned near a bed, wardrobe or doorway. It's also worth thinking about your storage requirements; taller models with additional drawers can help reduce the need for extra furniture elsewhere in the room. Exact dimensions for each tallboy are listed on its individual product page to help you plan.

Tallboy drawers are ideal for storing items that are used regularly but don't necessarily need hanging space in a wardrobe. They're perfect for folded clothing such as jumpers, T-shirts, jeans, pyjamas and sportswear, as well as underwear, socks and accessories. Many people also use a narrow chest of drawers to organise bedding, towels, children's clothing or seasonal items that aren't needed all year round. Dividing similar items between drawers makes it easier to keep everything organised and find what you're looking for quickly.

A tallboy works best against a clear wall where you can comfortably open each drawer without it being obstructed by furniture or other things like doors, radiators and wardrobes. Thanks to its slim footprint, it's an excellent choice for smaller bedrooms, alcoves, dressing areas or unused corners that wouldn't accommodate wider furniture.

Yes, as long as it's installed and used correctly. Because tallboy chests of drawers are taller and narrower than standard drawer units, they need to be secured to the wall using the anti-tip restraint supplied with many products. This is particularly important in children's bedrooms or busy family homes, where furniture could become unstable if multiple drawers are opened at the same time or children attempt to climb on them (which they often do!). It's also good practice to distribute heavier items in the lower drawers to improve stability and avoid overloading the top drawers. Make sure you follow the assembly instructions and safety guidance provided with your furniture.

Yes. Many of our tallboy chests of drawers form part of wider bedroom furniture collections, making it easy to create the coordinated look you’re dreaming of. Our popular Cornish, Celine and London
Oak ranges are a great starting point. They definitely can! Bedside tables are surprisingly versatile pieces of furniture. Their compact footprint makes them ideal as occasional tables in living rooms, lamp tables in hallways or practical storage units in home offices. A bedside cabinet with drawers can also work well in a guest room, dressing room or even a bathroom (as long as the room is well ventilated), a it will provide convenient storage while taking up very little floor space.

This will depend on the design you choose. Many of our tallboy chests of drawers arrive fully assembled or require only minimal assembly, while others may require more assembly, particularly larger or flat-packed designs. Each product page clearly states the assembly requirements, so you'll know exactly what to expect before placing your order. If assembly is required, comprehensive instructions and all necessary fittings are included.
