Coffee Tables

Aim for a coffee table length that is between half and two-thirds the length of your main sofa. For ideal comfort, the table's height should be within 1-2 inches (2.5-5cm) of your sofa's seat cushion, typically around 40-45cm high. Ensure you leave at least 45cm of clear space between the coffee table and other furniture for comfortable movement.

For oak tables, use coasters and wipe spills immediately to prevent water rings, cleaning with a damp cloth and occasional furniture polish. Painted tables benefit from gentle, non-abrasive cleaners to maintain the finish, and any minor chips can often be touched up with matching paint. Marble tops require regular sealing every 6-12 months and should be cleaned with a pH-neutral cleaner, avoiding acidic substances which can etch the surface.

Coffee tables with hidden storage, like lift-tops, are highly practical for converting your living room into a temporary workspace or dining area. Models featuring multiple drawers, typically around 10-15cm deep, are ideal for neatly tucking away remotes, magazines, and other small items. Open shelving also provides accessible storage for books or decorative baskets.

Many of our coffee tables, particularly those made from solid oak or with marble tops, arrive fully assembled to ensure structural integrity and ease of use. For those requiring minimal assembly, typically attaching legs, clear instructions and tools are provided. Please ensure clear access for delivery, especially for larger or heavier items like a 60kg solid marble coffee table, checking door frame and hallway dimensions beforehand.

To prevent overcrowding, apply the 'rule of three' by grouping items of varying heights, such as a stack of books, a small plant, and a decorative object. Using a decorative tray can unify smaller items and makes it easy to clear the surface when needed. Remember to leave ample empty space on the tabletop to maintain functionality and a balanced look, allowing for drinks or snacks.

Choose a coffee table with a striking material, such as a large marble top or a heavily textured oak finish, to naturally draw the eye. An unusual geometric shape or a design that contrasts with your existing sofa and rug colours can also make it stand out. For instance, a round, dark-painted coffee table can create a strong visual anchor in a room dominated by lighter, angular furniture.
